R32 Refrigerant
Lower-GWP pure HFC increasingly used in next-generation split AC and heat pumps (ASHRAE A2L).
About this refrigerant
R32 (difluoromethane, CH₂F₂) is a pure HFC with roughly one-third the GWP of R410A (675 vs 2088, IPCC AR4) and strong thermodynamic performance. It is widely specified for new residential and light-commercial split systems and many heat pumps.
ASHRAE classifies R32 as A2L — lower toxicity, mildly flammable with low burning velocity. Install and service only with A2L-rated components, correct charge limits and local code compliance. ODP is zero; POE lubricants are typical.
Applications
Next-generation split AC
Wall and multi-split units factory-charged or specified for R32.
Heat pumps
Air-source heat pumps designed for R32 efficiency and charge rules.
Light commercial AC
Small commercial packaged and ducted systems migrating from R410A to R32.
