Role of R404A

R404A is a zeotropic HFC blend long used in commercial refrigeration: cold rooms, freezers, display cabinets and food logistics at low and medium temperatures. Many installed systems still carry an R404A nameplate.

ACC includes R404A among five active refrigerant lines so B2B buyers can source cylinders aligned with labelled commercial equipment and request matching documentation.

High GWP context

R404A has a high GWP on common 100-year tables. Many regions encourage lower-GWP fluids for new commercial equipment. That policy pressure does not erase the need for correct R404A stock where machines are designed for it.

When discussing alternatives for new plant, start from OEM-approved fluids and system redesign — not informal drop-ins. Temperature glide, oil, expansion devices and safety class all change with the fluid.

Blend behaviour

As a zeotrope, R404A shows temperature glide: evaporator and condenser experience a temperature range rather than a single saturation point. Composition can shift if vapor is removed preferentially during leak or incorrect charging.

Standard practice is liquid-phase charging from a blended cylinder following OEM mass or superheat/subcooling targets. Keep recovered fluid segregated by code.

Commercial applications

Food retail cabinets, butcher and bakery cold rooms, logistics freezers and small industrial packs frequently list R404A. Duty temperature and compressor selection define whether the blend fits the design envelope.

ACC’s equipment catalogue — condensers, coolers and condensing units — often appears in the same projects that specify commercial refrigerants. Gas code and hardware must be planned together.

Alternatives discussion

For new equipment, OEM catalogues may point to lower-GWP blends or other architectures. Compare capacity tables, glide, oil and safety class under the same ambient and load assumptions.

ACC’s R407C line is a different zeotropic blend used in some AC and heat-pump contexts; it is not a universal substitute for R404A cold-room designs. Match each code to its machine.
