What to check when selecting a refrigerant

Start from the equipment

The equipment nameplate and OEM service literature define the allowed refrigerant. Capacity tables, expansion devices, pressure ratings and sensors are built around that code.

If multiple machines share a warehouse, photograph each nameplate and build a line-item list before ordering cylinders. Guessing a substitute from GWP tables is a common and expensive error.

Safety class and site rules

Confirm whether the fluid is A1 (for example typical R410A and R134a) or A2L (R32). Charge limits, leak detection, ventilation and installer competence follow the class.

Warehouse and transport SOPs should already reflect the highest class you stock. Adding R32 to an R410A-only store means updating segregation, training and SDS binders.

GWP, policy and tenders

Record GWP figures from datasheets (often IPCC AR4 100-year) for each code you bid. R32 (~675) scores lower than R410A (~2088); R404A is high-GWP in commercial cold. Policy may favour lower GWP for new plant while service stock still follows nameplates.

ODP is zero for ACC’s five HFC lines. Tender annexes often need that statement plus SDS references — request them early from the Documents centre.

Oil, blend type and charge method

Confirm lubricant family (POE, PAG or OEM-specified) before service teams open the circuit. Pure vs blend chemistry dictates charging discipline: liquid from blended cylinders for R410A, R404A and R407C; OEM mass/PT methods for R32 and R134a.

Logistics and documentation pack

Decide cylinder sizes against usage rate and storage limits. Align delivery with HSE clearance of SDS files. Request TDS and CoA when engineering or QA packs require them.

For mixed sites, order each of the five ACC lines as separate SKUs: R32, R410A, R134a, R404A, R407C. Contact with code, quantity and site constraints closes the loop from selection to delivery.

Quick ACC mapping

R32 — newer splits/heat pumps, A2L, GWP ~675. R410A — widely installed AC, A1 blend, GWP ~2088. R134a — chillers, medium-temp and automotive contexts, typically A1. R404A — commercial low/medium-temp cold, high GWP zeotrope. R407C — some AC/heat-pump and retrofit contexts, zeotrope with glide.

Use this mapping only as a navigation aid to the correct product page and document set. Final selection authority remains the labelled equipment and OEM instructions for that asset.
